Advanced Net8 Features

This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to configure advanced operations.

Click on any of the following to learn more about:

TNS Time Out value

Net8 sends a probe periodically to verify that a client-server connection is still active. This is done to ensure that connections are not left open indefinitely due to abnormal client terminations. If the probe finds a dead connection, or a connection that is no longer in use, it returns an error, causing the connection to terminate and server process to exit (if using a dedicated server process).

To enable this dead connection detection feature, enter a value in minutes in the TNS Time Out value field to specify the time interval between which Net8 will send a probe to verify if a client session is still active. Net8 will set this value to 0 by default.

Client Registration ID

Net8 allows a client to register a unique identifier with the listener during a connection request. The listener will include this identifier in its Audit Trail.

To enable a unique client identifier:

  1. Click on the Client Registration ID checkbox.

  2. Enter any alphanumeric string to identify the client with the listener.
