Routing

This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to route connect requests to specific processes.

Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

Use Dedicated Servers

Network listeners receive and respond to client connection requests by:

Dedicated server processes are committed to one session only and exist for the duration of that session. To force the listener to route connect requests to dedicated server processes, click on the Use Dedicated Servers checkbox. Net8 will not use dedicated servers by default.

Use IPC Addresses for Client

Interprocess communication (IPC) addresses identify incoming connection requests from applications on the same node as the network listener. To instruct the client to first attempt to contact a server on the same node using an interprocess communication (IPC) address, click on the Use IPC Addresses for Client checkbox. Net8 will not use IPC addresses for a client by default.

Use Source Route Addresses

Oracle Connection Manager is an application that provides support for concentration, multiple protocol support, and network access control functionality. To route a client's sessions through Oracle Connection Manager, click on the Use Source Route Addresses checkbox. This will enable you to use a source route address configured either in your local names configuration file (TNSNAMES.ORA) or Oracle Names. For more information on configuring local service names, click on "Using Service Names". Net8 will not specify source route addresses by default.
