Using a Profile


This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to create or modify a profile. A profile is a collection of parameters that specify preferences for enabling and configuring Net8 features on the client or server.

To create or modify a Profile, click on the Profile folder.

With the Profile folder active, use the pull down menu on the right hand side screen to select from a list of available preferences which you may configure.

Naming

The Naming pull down option allows you to specify the use of different naming methods. Net8 uses a naming method to resolve service name to an address when attempting to connect a client to a server. Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

General

The General pull down option allows you to specify preferences for how a client will perform tracing, logging, routing, and other advanced Net8 features. Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

Preferred Names Servers

The Preferred Names Servers pull down option allows a client to specify the listening address of Preferred Names Servers. If you are using Oracle Names, you will need to locate where Names Servers exist on the network in order to obtain information from them. Net8 will initially attempt to contact a Preferred Names Server listed in the order specified. For more information, click on "Preferred Names Servers".

Oracle Security Server

The Oracle Security Server pull down option allows you to specify preferences for configuring Oracle Security Server with Net8. Oracle Security Server is a global centralized authentication and authorization framework that is based on public-key cryptography. For more information, click on "Oracle Security Server".

Advanced Networking Options

The Advanced Networking Options pull down option allows you to specify preferences for configuring Oracle Advanced Networking Option with Net8. Oracle Advanced Networking Option enables network data encryption and checksumming, enhanced authentication services including single sign-on, and support for Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) Integration.
