Tracing


This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to configure tracing. Tracing is a feature that will assist you to diagnose and troubleshoot network problems. Enabling the tracing feature on the client allows you to obtain more information about the internal operations of Net8 than is provided in a log file.

The Oracle Net8 Assistant allows you to enable tracing on either the client or server, as well as to specify the name and location to which the trace files will be written.

Trace Level

To enable tracing, use the Trace Level pull-down menu in the Client Information text area or Server Information text area to select a trace level for either a client or server respectively. You may set tracing to any of the following levels:

Net8 sets tracing to OFF (No trace output) by default.

Trace File Directory

To specify the directory to which trace files will be written, enter any valid directory name in the Trace Directory field in the Client Information text area or Server Information text area for the client or server respectively.

Trace File

To specify the name of the trace file, enter any valid filename in the Trace File field in either the Client Information text area or Server Information text area for the client or server respectively.

Unique Trace File Name

To specify whether a client trace file will have a unique name, allowing multiple trace files to coexist, click on the Unique Trace File Name checkbox in the Client Information text area. Net8 sets unique trace file name to OFF by default.
