Logging and Tracing


Logging refers to the process by which a listener will note and append error-specific information to a log file.

Tracing is an additional feature that allows you to obtain more information about the internal operations of a listener than is provided in a log file.

Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

Disable Logging

To disable the logging feature on the listener, click on the Logging Disabled radio button.

Enable Logging

To enable the logging feature on the listener, click on the Logging Enabled radio button. Once enabled, you may specify where log information will be written. For more information on specifying a log directory and file name, click on "Log File".

Log File

To specify either the directory pathname or filename to which log information from the listener will be written, enter any valid path and file name in the Log File field provided. Note that the file name extension for this file is always ".log".

Disable Tracing

To disable tracing on the listener, click on the Tracing Disabled radio button.

Enable Tracing

To enable tracing on the listener, click on the Tracing Enabled radio button. Once enabled, you may specify the level of tracing desired. For more information, click on "Trace Level"

You may also specify where trace information will be written. For more information on specifying a trace directory and file name, click on "Trace File".

Trace Level

To select the level of tracing on a listeiner, use the Trace Level pull-down menu to select any of the following trace levels:

Tracing is set to disabled (No trace output) by default.

Trace File

To specify the directory path name and the name of the trace file to which trace information will be written, browse or enter any valid pathname and filename in the Trace File field provided.
