Database


This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to configure a database as a repository for Oracle Names information. Storing your Names information in a database is recommended to ensure the reliability of information replicated between Names Servers.

Configuring a Database as a Repository for Oracle Names Information

To specify using a database to store information in a region:

  1. Click on the Region Database checkbox.

  2. Configure the database listening address by selecting a network protocol in the Protocol pull down menu. You may choose from either tcp, ipc, or spx. Enter any protocol specific parameters.

  3. Enter a system identifier (SID) or unique name for the database instance.

  4. Select the type of server process that the database will use in the Server Information pull down menu. You may specify either a Dedicated server process or a Dispatcher or Shared Server process.

  5. Enter any optional username/passwords in the User and Password fields provided.

  6. Click on the Optional... button to configure the following optional preferences:

    a. Refresh from Database - enter a time value to specify when to refresh new information from the region database specified.

    b. Retry Interval - enter a time value to specify an amount of time to wait for a response.

    c. Retry Expiration - enter a time value to specify an amount of time to wait before terminating the retry attempt.

  7. Click OK to apply changes made to optional parameters; Click Cancel to delete changes and restore default settings.

  8. Select Save Network Configuration from the FILE menu to save your changes.

  9. Select Revert to Saved Configuration from the FILE menu to delete changes and to restore default settings.

If no region database is configured, Names Servers will automatically replicate their information to cache.
